bwbar software package provides generates text and graphical readout of current bandwidth use, you can install in your Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install bwbar
bwbar is installed in your system.
Make ensure the bwbar package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep bwbar *
You will get with bwbar package name, version, architecture and description in a table
